Life's A Beach

Most of my favorite pictures of the kids over the years have been taken at a beach, so I'm going to showcase our family beach pictures this week. I think I've always loved these pictures because of the combination of perfect natural lighting, fat baby legs in swimsuits, gorgeous background colors of sand and sea, fat baby legs in swimsuits, unabashed expressions of joy, wind in the hair, and fat baby legs in swimsuits.

These were taken in 2003, our first venture to the beach with the kids. We were at Long Beach Island. We were there for a week, and it took a good 5 days for Colson to accept the sand on his bare feet. He spent 5 days in that beach chair. We'd sit on the beach for a couple of hours each day, and he wouldn't leave that chair unless someone carried him down to the water. Toward the end of the week I got him some water shoes, and he felt a little more secure in those.

Colson had his first experience with a kite, and he was enthralled. At one point he let go of it, while Eric was holding him, and Eric had to run down the beach chasing it.

Ava was more adventurous in the sand on this trip, she was too young to realize how fraught with danger the sand was, according to Colson. On our next beach trip, she had a few moments of nervousness when first stepping onto the sand, but on this trip, she was blissfully ignorant. Ninjas like to face their fears anyway.

That was a fun trip. Cole and Ava were both still so little.

Next stop? Siesta Key Beach, 2004.....
